KILL LIST

8/27/2012

Nasty violent British art damage horror film featuring hit men, their women, and an creepy lot of satanists and pedophiles. No no no: unless you like that kind of thing...

Next destination on our time warp European Vacation are the gorgeous locations of this taut police procedural assassination thriller. Director Fred Zinnenmann adapts Frederick Forsyth's novel. It's so cool: loved it.

THE INBETWEENERS

7/24/2012

I'm not the demographic for this British TV show, but I love it. Funny!

Love soccer, excuse me, English football, brawling, Elijah Wood, and dreary gritty streets populated by hyper-masculine thugs who hate Yanks and Journalists? This is your pint!

FISH TANK

6/21/2012

Writer Director Social Realist Andrea Arnold (Red Road) brings us Michael Fassbender (with an Irish accent) in a disaffected young woman's coming of age in East London tale. Long, but good.  www.criterion.com/films/27541-fish-tank

CORIOLANUS

6/7/2012

"You fragments." The master of the contemptuous sneer, Ralph Fiennes, at his moody bloody best, stars in his directoral debut: a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy. Surrounded by top shelf talent; Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave, Brian Cox. Violent war action: with Shakespearean dialogue: yes! Watch it with the subtitles on.

KBO: keep buggering on! Awesome made for TV movie. Albert Finney is Winston Churchill; not too far removed from Daddy Warbucks (Annie.) Loved it!

James Miller and Saira Shah explore the effects of the Israel occupation on the youngest residents of the Gaza Strip. A project that cost one of the filmmakers their life. Sad story: great documentary.

LONDON RIVER

3/28/2012

Two parents from different backgrounds search for their children in the aftermath of London's 2005 terrorist bombing. Brenda Blethyn is awesome, as usual. Quiet, beautiful film.

MATCH POINT (2005)

3/16/2012

Daytime drama / soap opera fans rejoice! Woody Allen has made you a two hour movie with beautiful movie stars set in London! Jonathan Rhys Meyers is perfectly cast. Typical bad romance story classed up with literature & opera-goers. The Academy thought this was worthy of a best original screenplay nomination? Did not love it.
